Skin Needling- Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)

Collagen, the abundant protein in our skin that gives firming and strength, but is broken down over time leading to wrinkles and sagging skin. Skin needling, also known as CIT is a regenerative treatment that safely and effectively treats loss of firmness, enlarged pores, fine lines and acne scars.

The primary focus of skin needling is to stimulate the growth of new, healthy collagen fibers to replace the existing collagen that may be weakened and showing signs of ageing. This non-invasive method gives excellent results when performed as a course, and can be combined with PRP for boosted results.

DERMASTAMP

We choose to perform our skin needling with our Dermastamp machine. Dermastamp is the only device to be registered by the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG). It allows us to accurately treat any skin surface area to reduce pores and firm the skin. Collagen production will begin immediately after your first treatment giving you some instant results, but it will continue to form over the next 3- 6 months. Therefore you must be patient as you notice your skin improve over time.

Skin needling is a non-invasive treatment that stimulates collagen production to assist with firming, pore size, fine lines and scar management. It does so by ‘tricking’ the skin into the process of wound healing, where by the skin produces fresh collagen fibres and remodels them over a period of a few months to give firmer, more youthful skin.

We use Dermastamp, which is the only device to be registered by the ARTG. This instrument uses a single-use disposable treatment head that contains 6 fine needles that penetrate the skin, anywhere from 0.5mm- 1.5mm. These penetrations are delivered so fast and are so small, that the skin perceives this ‘controlled trauma’ as a wound, and that is when the healing process is initiated. The subsequent outcome of Dermastamp skin needling is CIT- Collagen Induction Therapy.
Anyone wanting to induce collagen production for anti-ageing effects is a candidate for skin needling. Those after firming effects, tightening pores and managing fine lines are good candidates. Also those wanting to improve atrophic scars and acne scars are ideal candidates for skin needling
Following your consultation, treatments take between 60-75 minutes, this includes numbing time.
Skin needling is best done as a course, anywhere from 3-6 sessions depending on your skin. Usually treatments are spaced at monthly intervals.
Results can be maintained with a top-up needling treatment every 3-6 months, and your results can be maximized by using good quality vitamin A (retinol) and vitamin C products at home.
Most commonly the face and neck can be treated. Because skin needling induces collagen production, it is a fabulous treatment for crow’s feet, fine lines and wrinkles, open pores, scars and sagging skin. A few months following a course of treatments, the skin is noticeably firmer and more voluminous.
You will have topical numbing cream applied before the needling commences, so you don’t feel much at all. Bony prominences like the forehead can be slightly uncomfortable, but otherwise the treatment is very tolerable and easy to have. You will be red at the end of the treatment; this redness subsides over the next 2 days.

On day 2 you may still have minor pinkness that can be covered with mineral make up. Sometimes there can also be small blood dots under the skin that conveniently clear over a few days and are coverable with mineral make up. Some people may experience flakiness from day 3, which can be lightly exfoliated away over a few days.
