Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal treatments are one of the most sought after services within the health and beauty sector. Unwanted hair growth can be a nuisance for many men and women.

The most effective way to achieve a permanent reduction in hair growth is with laser or IPL treatments. We use our Fotona SP Dynamis laser for hair reduction. This world-class Nd:YAG laser allows us to treat deep-rooted hairs on all skin types.

Treatments are safe and fast. Some salons/ clinics will claim to offer 'laser hair removal', when in fact they are using a sub-standard IPL system. Not all lasers are the same, not all IPLs are the same.

And a laser and IPL are most definitely not the same. Lasers have key differences to IPL, mainly in what type of light they produce and how high-powered they are. We are happy to offer our patients both treatments- laser and IPL hair removal- with the best quality machines available today.

Laser hair reduction works by producing a single wavelength of light consisting of one single colour and form. This concentrated beam is highly selective and high powered, and is used to target the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle. The hair follicle is heated to a desired temperature that will cause the hair growth to gradually thin out and reduce altogether. The type and colour of your hair and skin will determine how we tune the exact settings of the machine required to treat your hair.

Both Laser and IPL hair reduction treatments work on a principal that the light device is pulsed into the skin and primarily absorbed into the pigment of the hair. The hair then heats up to destroy the hair follicle and reduce hair growth. All of this happens while the surrounding skin is protected and unaffected.
Hair reduction is always completed as a course of treatments. This is because our millions of hairs are all at different stages of growth. Laser and IPL hair reduction treatments only work when the hair is in a specific phase of this growth (when it is connected to a blood supply). Therefore in order for this to work you need several treatments at designated time frames.
Depending on your skin type and hair growth, you may need anywhere from 4-8 sessions 4-8 weeks apart. This will be discussed with you during your initial consultation. If you don't have enough sessions your hair growth may start to increase. Maintenance treatments may also be necessary to prolong the treatment's effectiveness.
An initial consultation is a must before hair reduction treatments commence. There are many factors an variables that must be considered for safe and effective treatment. These include hair colour, hair thickness and density, hair growth cycles, skin colour and sun exposure.

The sensation of the treatment is often compared to the feeling of a rubber band flicking the skin. This sensation only lasts for a fraction of a second and most clients report only minimal discomfort. Immediately following the treatment there will be temporary redness to the skin, this will disappear after a short time with most people returning to normal activities immediately.
