Skincare MYTH: “Sunscreen Blocks my Pores”

Are you put off wearing sunscreen because you’ve heard it blocks your pores? Maybe you’ve tried one in the past that felt heavy and oily. These days there are well-formulated sunscreens that feel light as a feather on your skin..

Sunscreen is one of the most important products you can use to prevent skin cancer as well as premature aging. Daily application of sunscreen over the years will prevent lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, redness and loss of elasticity in the skin.

A common myth is that sunscreens feel greasy on the skin and clog your pores, leading to breakout. This is not true of all sunscreens. A good quality SPF can feel light on your face, like you aren’t even wearing one at all. And why wouldn’t you wear it- you greatly reduce the risk of getting pigmentation.

Sun damage has a cumulative effect on the skin. Every day that you don’t wear sunscreen, UV rays are penetrating through the layers of your skin and causing damage. By simply applying a daily layer of SPF you are preventing so much of this tissue breakdown.

In the clinic we have a choice of sunscreens to suit everyone. We stock full mineral sunscreen from O Cosmedics, physical zinc sunscreens from ASAP, as well as chemical sunscreens from Aspect Dr and Allmedic. Some of our SPFs have tint so can be used as a make up, and some are moisturising so you don’t need to wear anything underneath them. All of our sunscreens have a light formulation that doesn’t clog your skin. And all of our sunscreens protect you from the harmful effects of UV damage.

We strongly advise that all of our patients use daily SPF. Drop by the clinic today to find the perfect sunscreen for you.
